Decumbent or spreading annual or short-lived perennial, up to 7 dm. tall, sometimes with underground runners.. Stems laxly branched, subappressed pubescent to spreading pilose.. Leaves 3-foliolate; leaflets not varying much in shape up the stem, linear-lanceolate or more usually oblong-lanceolate to elliptic-oblong or elliptic, up to 20–50 mm. long and 6–28 mm. wide, glabrous or rarely pilose above, rather thinly appressed pilose beneath; petiole up to 16–42 mm. long.. Stipules subulate or linear-caudate, ± 3–9(–16) mm. long.. Racemes long and slenderly pedunculate, up to 9–16(–34) cm. long, with numerous fairly closely arranged flowers; bracts subulate-caudate, expanded at the base, 1–2(–3) mm. long; bracteoles inserted at the base of the calyx, subulate, up to 1–2 mm. long.. Calyx 4–5 mm. long, appressed pubescent, often thinly so and rarely subglabrous; lobes acuminately triangular, longer than the tube.. Standard obovate-elliptic to suborbicular, yellow veined reddish-purple, glabrous outside; wings ± as long as the keel or shorter; keel rounded about the middle, with a generally short incurved subacute untwisted beak, 6–8 mm. long, strongly veined purple.. Pod practically sessile, subcylindrical, a little broadened towards the apex, 12–18 mm. long, 4–6 mm. across, rather densely pubescent with short subappressed or spreading hairs, ± 24–30-seeded.. Seeds oblique-cordiform, ±1·5 mm. long, rugulose, reddish-brown.
