Characteristics

Annual, with a short erect stem, up to 2·5 dm. tall, and long mostly procumbent lower branches.. Stem sparsely to rather densely spreading pilose.. Leaves shortly petiolate, 1-foliolate; leaflets ovate, up to 15–38 mm. long, 12–20 mm. wide, with those of the leading shoot relatively narrower, ovate-lanceolate, up to 65 mm. long and 28 mm. wide, subacute to rounded and minutely apiculate, cuneate to rounded at the base, glabrous above, thinly appressed pilose beneath; petiole 3–8 mm. long.. Stipules filiform, 3–5 mm. long, with scattered bristly hairs.. Racemes terminal and leaf-opposed, pedunculate, ± 2·5–6 cm. long, with up to 12 flowers rather crowded towards the top; bracts filiform, 4–5 mm. long; bracteoles inserted at the top of the pedicel, similar to the bract.. Calyx ultimately reflexed against the pedicel, 7–9 mm. long, pilose; lobes narrow, 2–3 times as long as the tube.. Standard suborbicular or oblate, china-blue, with a violet median line and veins and a bright yellow basal zone, glabrous outside; wings ± as long as the keel, china-blue; keel rounded about the middle, with a slight crest preceding the incurved bluntly pointed untwisted beak, up to 8 mm. long, greenish.. Pod subsessile, ellipsoid, up to 14 mm. long, 8 mm. across, rather densely spreading pilose, up to 16-seeded.. Seeds oblique-cordiform, ± 3 mm. long, wrinkled, terracotta.
