Characteristics

Shrub to 5 m high. Indumentum ferruginous-yellow. Branchlets with scattered to sparse peltate trichomes and scales, glabrescent. Stipules lanceolate, 1–4 mm long, entire. Leaf lamina elliptic to ovate, 20–140 mm long, 10–60 mm wide; base cuneate; margins denticulate to weakly crenate with 12–26 teeth per side of midrib?; tip acute, obcordate or retuse; venation penninerved with 8–14 lateral veins per side of midrib, tertiary reticulate veins obscure; lower surface matt green, lateral veins prominent, with scattered and ± persistent peltate scales; extrafloral nectaries 2, circular to ellipsoid, sessile, visible above and below. Male flowers: pedicels 2–3.7 mm long; sepals lanceolate-ovate, 1.8–2.3 mm long; petals lanceolate to lanceolate-ovate, 2–2.8 mm long; stamens 6. Styles 3, bifid once. Fruit trilobate, globose, 7–9 mm long, 6–8 mm diam., with sparse sessile peltate scales.
