Characteristics

Shrub to 5 m high. Indumentum ferruginous-silver. Branchlets with dense overlapping stellate trichomes, glabrescent. Stipules linear to linear-lanceolate, 1.7–11 mm long, entire. Leaf lamina elliptic, orbicular, ovate or obovate, 20–240 mm long, 10–200 mm wide; base cordate, cuneate, rounded or truncate; margins denticulate to weakly crenate with 30–50 [inconsistent with key to spp. step 9-Editor] teeth; tip acute to rounded; venation palminerved with 3–5 veins from base and 5–7 lateral veins per side of midrib further up lamina, tertiary reticulate veins present; lower surface ferruginous-silver, lateral and reticulate venation prominent, with sparse to dense overlapping stellate trichomes, often velutinous; extrafloral nectaries 2 at lamina base, ellipsoid, sessile or stipitate to 1 mm long, visible above and below. Male flowers: pedicels 1.5–10 mm long; sepals lanceolate-ovate to ovate, 2–4.5 mm long; petals oblanceolate to ovate, 2–4.2 mm long; stamens 20–44. Styles 3, bifid once. Fruit trilobate, globose, 6–11 mm long, 7–11 mm diam., with dense sessile and stalked stellate trichomes.
