Characteristics

Shrub to 3 m high. Indumentum ferruginous. Branchlets with scattered to sparse peltate scales, glabrescent. Stipules linear-lanceolate, c. 1.7 mm long, entire. Leaf lamina narrow-ovate, oblanceolate or obovate, 18–180 mm long, 12–70 mm wide; base cordate to truncate; margins entire or weakly sinuate; tip acute to shortly acuminate; venation penninerved and comprising 7–11 lateral veins per side of midrib, tertiary reticulate veins weakly developed; lower surface pale green, lateral and tertiary reticulate veins weakly developed, glabrous or with scattered peltate scales when young [inconsistent with key to spp. step 20?-Editor]; extrafloral nectaries 2 at lamina base, circular, shortly stipitate to 0.5 mm long, visible below only. Male flowers: pedicels 2–2.5 mm long; sepals lanceolate, 1.5–2 mm long; petals lanceolate, 1.8–2.4 mm long; stamens 10 or 11. Styles 3, bifid once. Fruit trilobate, globose, 5–6 mm long, 5–6 mm diam., with sparse sessile peltate scales.
