Characteristics

Shrub or tree to 10 m high. Indumentum silver or silver-ferruginous. Branchlets with admixture of dense stellate and peltate trichomes and peltate scales, glabrescent. Stipules linear, 0.5–1 mm long, entire. Leaves: petiole 10–40 mm long; lamina elliptic to ovate, 30–110 mm long, 15–40 mm wide; base rounded; margins crenate to denticulate with 20–36 teeth [inconsistent with key to spp. step 21:-editor] teeth; tip acute, short to long acuminate; venation penninerved and comprising 10–12 lateral veins per side of midrib, tertiary reticulate veins indistinct; lower surface pale green, lateral veins weakly prominent, with widely scattered peltate trichomes; extrafloral nectaries ellipsoid, sessile, visible below only. Male flowers: pedicels 1.5–2 mm long; sepals lanceolate-triangular, 1.3–1.5 mm long; petals oblanceolate, 1.8–2 mm long; stamens 11 or 12. Styles 3, bifid once. Fruit trilobate, depressed-globose, 4–5 mm long, 5–6 mm diam., with sparse sessile stellate trichomes.
