Characteristics

Shrub to 4 m high. Indumentum silver. Branchlets with dense overlapping stellate trichomes, glabrescent. Stipules linear-lanceolate, 0.4–2.2 mm long, entire. Leaf lamina elliptic, elliptic-ovate or obovate, 15–200 mm long, 7–135 mm wide; base cordate, rounded or truncate; margins sinuate to denticulate with 35–56 teeth [nconsistent with key to spp. step 27-Editor]; tip acuminate, acute or rounded; venation ± penninerved or somewhat palminerved, with 9–11 lateral veins per side of midrib and reticulate tertiary veins; lower surface pale green, venation weakly prominent, with dense stellate trichomes becoming scattered with age; extrafloral nectaries 2 at lamina base, ellipsoid, stipitate to 1 mm, visible only below. Male flowers: pedicels 1.5–6 mm long; sepals lanceolate-ovate, 1.8–2.5 mm long; petals oblanceolate, 2–3 mm long; stamens 8–12. Styles 3, bifid once. Fruit trilobate, depressed-globose, 5–6 mm long, 6–7 mm diam., with sparse sessile stellate trichomes.
