A monoecious shrub or small tree to 8 m.. Bark grey, fissured into rectangular scales.. Young twigs and petioles densely lepidote.. Petioles 1.5–4 cm. long; leaf-blade ovate, rarely elliptic, 3.8–9.2 cm. long, 2.2–4.8 cm. wide, obtusely acuminate, subtruncate to cordate, with 2–4 sessile basal glands, entire, lateral nerves (5–)7–9 pairs, uniformly sparingly stellate-puberulous above, densely silvery lepidote and sparsely brown flecked beneath.. Stipules subulate, 1.5–7 mm. long, caducous.. Racemes terminal, 6–19 cm. long, mostly ♂ with 1–few ♀ flowers at the base; bracts lanceolate, 2–3 mm. long, soon deciduous.. Male flowers: pedicels 2–3 mm. long; calyx-lobes 5, lanceolate, 3.7 mm. long, 1.8 mm. wide, densely lepidote without, densely pubescent within; petals 5, lanceolate, 3.5 mm. long, 1.7 mm. wide, subacute, indumented as the sepals; stamens 30, filaments ± 6 mm. long, sparingly pilose below, anthers 1.6 mm. long.. Female flowers: pedicels as in ♂; calyx-lobes 5, ovate-deltoid, 3.3 mm. long, 2.5 mm. wide, otherwise as in ♂; petals resembling the calyx-lobes; staminodes sometimes present and well-developed; ovary globose, densely lepidote; styles 3, flattened, palmatifid into ± 8 lobes, lepidote without towards the base.. Fruit depressed-trilobate-globose, 2 cm. long, 2.2–2.5 cm. diameter, tardily loculicidal, rugulose, lepidote, ochraceous; endocarp woody, 3 mm. thick.. Seeds compressed-ellipsoid, ± 1.2 cm. long, 9 mm. wide, 6 mm. thick, slightly shiny, light brown, ecarunculate.
