Characteristics

Subshrub to 1.5 m high. Indumentum ferruginous-silver. Branchlets with dense stellate trichomes. Stipules linear to linear-lanceolate, 1.2–6 mm long, entire. Leaf lamina broad-ovate, elliptic, lanceolate-ovate or ovate, 15–140 mm long, 11–115 mm wide; base cordate, rounded or truncate; margins crenate with 16–28 teeth [inconsistent with key to spp. step 9:-Editor]; tip acute to rounded; venation palminerved with 3–5 veins at base, 4–6 lateral veins per side of midrib further up lamina, and tertiary reticulate veins; lower surface pale matt green, lateral and tertiary veins prominent, with sparse to dense stellate trichomes and sometimes with stalked yellow glandular trichomes; extrafloral nectaries absent or 2 at lamina base, circular to ellipsoid, sessile or stipitate, visible above and below. Male flowers: pedicels 1.5–7 mm long; sepals lanceolate-ovate to ovate, 1.8–3 mm long; petals oblanceolate to obovate, 1.5–3.2 mm long; stamens 11–24 [key to spp. step 12: says 10–24]. Styles 3, bifid once. Fruit trilobate, depressed-globose, 5–8 mm long, 7–8 mm diam., with dense stalked stellate trichomes.
