Characteristics

Shrub or tree to 18 m high. Indumentum silver. Branchlets with dense stellate trichomes, glabrescent. Stipules subulate, 1.5–7 mm long, entire. Leaf lamina cuneate-obovate, elliptic or ovate, 13–160 mm long, 5–60 mm wide; base cordate, cuneate or retuse; margins denticulate with 14–24 teeth; tip acute to acuminate; venation penninerved with 10–12 (–15) lateral veins per side of midrib, tertiary reticulate veins obscure; lower surface silver, lateral veins prominent, with dense stellate trichomes and dense peltate scales; extrafloral nectaries 2 at base of lamina, circular, stipitate to 1.8 mm, visible above and below. Male flowers: pedicels 2–4 mm long; sepals lanceolate-ovate, ovate or obovate, 1.5–2.2 mm long; petals obovate, 1.5–2.2; stamens 10–12. Styles 3, multifid, divided twice. Fruit trilobate, depressed-globose, 7–8 mm long, 7–10 mm diam., with dense stalked stellate trichomes on mammillate protuberances.
