Characteristics

Shrub to 5 m high. Indumentum ferruginous. Branchlets with scattered trichomes, glabrescent. Stipules lanceolate, 4–4.5 mm long, entire. Leaf lamina elliptic, broadly elliptic or oblanceolate, 75–185 mm long, 40–70 mm wide; base cuneate; margins sinuate or very weakly denticulate with 20–30 teeth; tip acute to short acuminate; venation penninerved with 9–11 lateral veins per side of midrib and tertiary reticulate veins; lower surface pale green, lateral and tertiary venation weakly prominent, glabrous apart from a few scattered peltate trichomes [inconsistent with key to spp. step 20:-Editor]; extrafloral nectaries 2 at lamina base, ellipsoid, sessile, visible below only. Male flowers: pedicels 1.8–4 mm long; sepals lanceolate-ovate, 1.6–2 mm long; petals oblanceolate, 1.8–2 mm long; stamens 10 or 11. Styles 3, bifid once. Fruit trilobate, globose, 4.5–7 mm long, 5–7 mm diam., with scattered ±sessile peltate trichomes.
