Characteristics

Plants yellowish green to bright green. Stolons creeping along tree trunk. Stems erect, 4-7 cm tall, more or less pinnately branched, dichotomous, or irregular occasionally. Branches 0.5-2.5 cm long. Stem leaves broadly ovate-acuminate, concave at base, 1.7-2.4 x 0.9-1.4 mm, imbricate when dry, erect-patent when wet. Leaf margins entire to denticulate in upper 1/4, entire below, plane or slightly recurved. Costa strong, reaching 0.90-1.00 of leaf length, 50-70 µm wide at base. Leaf cells incrassate, a few inner basal cells linear, restricted to leaf base, 28-40 x 6-10 µm, minutely prorate; apical and laminal cells rhombic or subrhombic, 18-22 x 8-14 µm; alar cells rounded or subquadrate, 12-18 µm wide. Branch leaves smaller, 1.4-1.8 x 0.7-0.9 mm, their shape similar to stem leaves, but narrower. Pseudoparaphyllia biseriate at base, uniseriate above, 100-150 µm long. Autoicous. Perigonia solitary, bud-like; perigonial leaves ovate, 0.32-0.56 mm, ecostate, laminal cells hexagonal below, rhombic above, smooth or minutely prorate. Perichaetia usually3-5, in clusters, along stems and branches; fertile branches slightly swollen. Outer perichaetial leaves 1.1-1.7 mm long, ovate(oblong)-acuminate, ecostate to partly costate; margins slightly incurved; laminal cells linear in inner part, shorter and wider in marginal part, upper laminal cells prorate, basal cells smooth. Inner perichaetial leaves yellowish, 2.1-3.3 x 0.60-1.10 mm, oblong, yellowish to hyaline, above abruptly narrowed to an arista, 0.25-0.33 of leaf length; shoulders wider than lower portion: laminal cells linear-hexagonal to linear, prorate, basal cells shorter and wider, smooth, cells on laminal shoulders mostly rhombic; costa none or strong at apex, tapering downwards, usually disappearing in lower 2/3 of leaf. Capsules cylindrical, 2.15-2.35 x 0.45-0.53 mm; stomata not observed; exothecial cells irregular, hyaline on most of part of capsule, but with 5-7 rows of brownish, subquadrate cells under mouth. Seta absent. Peristome hygrocastique, double, hyaline; exostome teeth 320-400 µm long, lanceolate, papillose; endostome segments shorter, ca.320 µm long, narrowly lanceolate to linear, papillose. Annulus consisting of two to three tiers of thick-walled cells. Columella persistent, 3/5-4/5 of theca length. Operculum conic, smooth. Calyptra mitriform, with shallow splits in base, almost smooth. Spores globose, 30 (26-36) µm, papillose.
