Characteristics

Large tree, 2-18 m high. Leaves alternate, coriaceous, margins entire, wavy, revolute; basal 3-veined continuing to halfway or almost to rounded or notched apex, nerves raised beneath, upper reticulation strong; lower surface glabrous to ± velvety, ferruginous pubescent. Inflorescences axillary or terminal, thyrso-paniculate, densely ferruginous pubescent. Flowers ± 3 mm long, pedicels, receptacle and sepals covered by cinnamon-coloured hairs. Tepals white. Stamens 9, fertile, in 3 whorls; staminodes in whorl four. Flowering time Oct.-Dec. Fruit spherical, ± 20 mm in diam., enveloped by receptacle, black.
