Leaves broadly ovate to elliptic, 100–250 × 40–80 mm, dark green with white midrib above, purplish red beneath, on stout stalks 30–60 mm long. Flower stem 250–700 mm long, 4–15-flowered. Flowers 20–30 × 15–20 mm. Sepals and petals greenish. Dorsal sepal 20–30 × 4–5 mm, decurved. Lateral sepals 20–30 × 4–5 mm, obliquely erect, divergent. Petals 15–20 × 2.5–3 mm, spreading. Labellum projected stiffly forwards, 26–30 mm × 15–20 mm when flattened, yellow and red, finely hairy, with darker red netted veins, central margins recurved. Callus of 2 discontinuous purple ridges ending in a bilobed projecting knob. Column c. 4 × 3.5 mm.
Widespread and common; growing in open areas among shrubs on flats and swamp margins in a range of habitats including coastal scrub, heathland, woodland, granite outcrops, and high rainfall forests in well-drained to moist sands, laterite and clay loam.
