Characteristics

Fruticulus ± ramosus, fide collect, cr. 60 cm altus. Rami ± erecti, in partibus iunioribus araneosi, deinde glabrescentes, usque ad capitula aequaliter foliati internodiis cr.2-3 mm longis. Folia sessilia, non decurrentia, ovati-lanceolata, rigide membranacea, ± recurva, (8-)12-25(-30) mm longa, (3-)4-6(-8) mm lata, apice in spinam fulvam (2-)3-5 mm longam excurrentia, margine vix revoluta vel subrevoluta, spinis flexilibus ei in apice similibus in 4-8 iugis dispositis divaricates 3-5 mm longis cum brevioribus geminatis (rarius singulis solitariis; interdum cum spina altera in facie superior prope marginem inserta ternatis) obsita, supra glabra, subtus leviter araneosa vel subglabra vel glabra. Capitula in apicibus ramorum solitaria, ligulis expansis cr. 2.5-3.5 cm diam. Involucrum leviter araneosum vel subglabrum; pars connata cupuliformis, cr. 5-6 mm alta, cr. 5-8 mm lata; squamae lineari-lanceolatae, parietales 5-6 mm longae, 1-1.5 mm latae, in spinam excurrentes et margine spinis solitariis vel geminatis in 3-5 iugis obsitae, leviter recurvae; squamae terminals cr. 2-seriatae, 5-7 mm longae, 1-1.5 mm latae (singulae seriei intimae minores), spinosi-acuminatae, brevissime denticulatae. Achaenia laevia glaberrima.
