Characteristics

Fruticulus vel frutex + ramosus, fide collect, cr. 60-90 cm altus. Rami diffusi, nunc dense aggregati, nunc laxe dispositi et elongati, glabri vel leviter araneosi, usque ad capitula dense et aequaliter foliati internodiis 1-1.5 mm longis, partibus foliorum adnatis ad maiorem partem obtecti. Folia sessilia, fere usque ad folium proximum decurrentia, linearia, rigida, arcuatim recurva, parte adnata inclusa 5-8(-10) mm longa, (cr.0.5-)1(-1.5) mm lata, apice in spinam fulvam (1-)1.5-2.5 mm longam excurrentia, marginibus revolutis, in lateribus utrinque 2-4(-5) spinis ± in iugis dispositis ei in apice similibus solitariis uniseriatis 1-2 mm longis obsita, supra glabra, subtus inter marginibus revolutis et nervo mediane leviter prominenti glabro tomentosa. Capitula in apicibus ramorum solitaria, ligulis expansis 2-2.5(-3) cm diam. Involucri pars connata cupuliformis, 4-5 mm alta, 3-4 mm lata, subglabra vel levissime araneosa; squamae parietals 5-4 mm longae, recurvae, ut folia formatae et spinis instructae et in ea transgredientes; squamae terminals uniseriatae, 3-4 mm longae, lanceolatae, cr. 1 mm latae, planae, spinosi-acuminatae, marginibus brevissime denticulatae, glabrae vel subglabrae. Achaenia laevia glaberrima.

Capitula radiate, several-to many-flowered, solitary, sessile, terminal on main and side branches; inner involucral bracts unarmed, outer ones armed. Ray florets neuter; yellow. Disc florets bisexual, fertile; yellow. Flowering time Aug.-Oct.? Cypselae oblong-ellipsoid, smooth.
