Characteristics

Fruticulus verisimiliter ± decumbens ramosus, fide collect, cr. 50 cm altus. Rami patentes vel diffusi, saepe elongati, glabri, usque ad capitula dense et aequaliter foliati internodiis cr. 1.5-2 mm longis. Folia sessilia, cr. usque ad dimidium longitudinis adnata, lanceolate vel elliptici-lanceolata, rigida, suberecta vel leviter patentia, parte adnata inclusa 4-10(-14) mm longa, 1-4(-5) mm lata, apice in spinam fulvam (2-)3-5(-6) mm longam in angulo ± recto reflexam excurrentia, margine flava cornea incrassata, spinis 1-3(-4) mm longis bifariam ciliata (spinae seriei deorsum ortae aliquantum breviores et densius dispositae quam eae seriei sursum ortae), supra et subtus glabra. Capitula in apicibus ramorum solitaria, ligulis expansis 2.5-4 cm diam. Involucrum glabrum; pars connata cupuliformis, 4-5 mm alta, 5-6 mm lata; squamae 3-7 mm longae, 0.5-2 mm latae, parietales partem connatam fere totaliter obtegentes, lineari-lanceolatae, ceterum foliis similes et in ea transgredientes, spina apicali reflexa et spinis lateralibus instructae, terminales cr. 2-seriatae, lanceolatae, in spinam breviorem et vix reflexam excurrentes, margine non incrassatae, brevissime denticulatae. Achaenia laevia glaberrima.

Prickly, straggling, densely leafy shrublet to 60 cm. Leaves ascending, ovate, margins thickened, bristly in 2 rows, tips pungent and reflexed. Flower heads radiate, mostly solitary at branch tips, yellow.
Folia parte adnata inclusa 4-6 mm longa, 1-1.5(-2) mm lata. Capitula ligulis expansis (2-)2.5-3 cm diam. Involucri squamae 3-4 mm longae, 0.5-1 mm latae.
