Characteristics

Stems rather coarse, 0.25–1.5 mm. in diameter.. Flowers pale cream-coloured, waxy in texture, 4–6 mm. long and 4–9 mm. broad, usually broader than long and becoming more depressed as the capsule matures, arranged in few-flowered cymes; pedicels shorter than the flowers.. Corolla 4–6 mm. long; lobes shorter than the tube, obtuse.. Stamens half as long as the lobes; filaments short and thick.. Scales nearly always present, rather thick, reaching to the base of the stamens and adnate to the corolla-tube over a large triangular area; sinuses occurring at the base or about halfway up the tube; fringing variable in amount.. Styles short and rather thick, up to 1 mm. long and 0.3 mm. broad, often reflexed.. Capsule depressed-globose, at length splitting around the base.. Seeds subglobose, pale yellow-brown or blackish when dry, 1.5–2 mm. long.
