Leaves opposite; blades up to c. 11 × 6 cm, elliptic or oblong-elliptic, narrowly rounded to acuminate at the apex, obtuse or subcordate at the base, densely velvety on both surfaces with short ± spreading hairs; petioles short, up to 2 mm long; stipules with a ± triangular base 1.5 mm long and a linear-lanceolate apex 8–11 mm long.
A shrub. It grows 3 m tall. It can be a tree 10-15 m tall. The young stems have grey hairs. The branches spread at right angles. The leaves are opposite and 11 cm long by 6 cm wide. They are narrowly oval. There are several flowers in a group. They are hairy. They are yellowish-green. The fruit are 15 mm long by 10 mm wide.
Shrub to 3 m, or tree 10–15 m tall; stems of young leafy shoots densely covered with spreading grey hairs; older stems glabrous or obscurely pubescent, with grey-brown finely flaking bark, minutely punctate with scars of hair bases; branchlets spreading at right angles.
Corolla yellowish-green, acute and shortly 5-tailed in bud; olive-green, finely rather sparsely spreading puberulous; tube 2–3 mm long with ring of long deflexed hairs inside but throat glabrous; lobes 2.5–3.5 mm long including the tails, narrowly triangular.
Flowers fairly numerous in pubescent branched dichasial cymes; peduncle 10–20 mm long; secondary branches 3–10 mm long; pedicels 1–3 mm long; bracts leaf-like, 4–5 × 1–2 mm, oblong-subspathulate, glabrous save for base and margins, or pubescent.
Fruit 15 × 9–11 mm (single-seeded only seen).Pyrenes 12 × 6 × 4.5 mm, ± ellipsoid with ventral face plane, not keeled, not beaked at point of attachment, ± smooth.
Calyx tube 1 mm long, densely spreading pubescent; lobes 3–4 × 0.8–1.2 mm, narrowly oblong-spathulate, glabrous inside, ciliate at margins and pubescent outside.
Pollen presenter 0.6 mm long.
Style exserted 1.5 mm.
Ovary 2-locular.
