Characteristics

Rhizome 2 mm diam.; internodes 15–80 mm long, with internode cortical vascular bundles associated with cortical fibre bundles. Roots 1 or 2, unbranched or little-branched. Stem with 2 or 3 leaves; leaf scar open. Leaf sheath 15–30 mm long, slightly obconic; old sheaths not forming a scarious mass; ligule 0.5–0.75 mm high; auricles rather obtuse. Leaf blade linear, narrower towards apex, 25–90 mm long, 3–6 mm wide; apex obtuse to slightly attenuate, sparsely serrate, sometimes bifurcate; longitudinal veins 9–13. Male flower not seen. Female flower: ovary ovoid, 2.5 mm long. Fruit subcircular in outline, 6 mm long, with stalk 4–5 mm long; beak curved, at least 6 mm long.
