Characteristics

Corolla 9–14 mm. long, white, split to the base into 2 lips, the upper 3–lobed but finally disintegrating, saccate at the base, the lower consisting of 2 free petals; all petals linear, sparsely or densely pubescent outside with short spreading hairs, pubescent inside with longer hairs.

Leaves petiolate, up to 75 x 30(45) mm., narrowly lanceolate to narrowly ovate, lower leaves sometimes hastate, acute at the apex, cuneate to subtruncate at the base, glabrous; margin serrate or serrate–crenate, flat; venation prominent beneath; petiole up to 20 mm. long.
Inflorescence twining, lax, up to 80 cm. long, usually branched, except for in the uppermost part, with groups of 2–several flowers from the leaf–axils; pedicels 2–5 mm. long, shortly pubescent with spreading hairs; bracteoles 1–2 mm. long.
Stamens 6–8 mm. long; filaments linear, free, dilated at the base, pubescent; anthers elliptic–oblong, 1·5–2·4 mm. long, pubescent with hairs 0·4–0·5 mm. long on the back of the connective but glabrous at the apex.
Twining and climbing herb up to 1 m. or more long; stem sparsely branched, ribbed, glabrous below, finely pubescent with spreading hairs at least in the upper part of the inflorescence region.
Capsule ovoid–globose, inferior part 3–4 mm. long, membranous, with 10 distinct nerves connected by weak transversal nerves; valves 7–8 mm. long.
Calyx–lobes linear, erect, becoming spreading or somewhat reflexed in fruit, 5–9 mm. long, with 1–3 pairs of teeth at the margin.
Hypanthium broadly obconical, 10–nerved, shortly pubescent with spreading hairs at least towards the base.
Seeds broadly elliptic in outline, flat, 4–4·5 x 3 mm., broadly winged, brown.
Ovary semisuperior; style 4–6·5 mm. long.
