Characteristics

Caulis volubilis, glaber, ramosus, sparse foliatus, ad 60 cm longus. Folia 4-20 mm longe petiolata, lamina foliorum inferiorum (in specimine Eckl. & Z.) hederaeformis: late triloba, 50 x 50 mm, lobi ovati subacuti mucronulati (lobus medius 25 x 25 mm, laterales 11 x 15 mm, duo lobuli basales minus conspicui 2 mm tantum longi), lamina foliorum reliquorum triangularis, 20-28 x 9-23 mm, basi truncata vel rotundata et 2-1-loba (lobus medius elongatus, laterales triangulares 2-7 mm longi, interdum ut dentes majores tantum formati, apice acuti), omnia in margine crenulata, rarius distincte dentata, herbacea, glabra. Flores solitarii in axillis bractearum ovato-lanceolatarum supra basin utrinque dente conspicuo munitarum. Pedicelli 5-10 mm longi, filiformes, glabri, bibracteolati. Calycis tubus brevi-campanulatus, lobi sublineares, 2-4 mm longi, integerrimi, erecti. Corolla ,alba, purpureo-striata' (Compton), 12-15 mm longa, extus glabra, intus basin versus sub-pubescens, bilabiata, lobi extremi lanceolati. Stamina 6.5-8 mm longa: filamenta pubescentia, versus basin dilatata; antherae in dorso pilosae. Stylus 5-6 mm longus, stigmate capitato, piloso terminatus.

Perennial herb, with stem twining, glabrous, branched, sparsely leafy, up to 0.6 m long. Leaves 3-5-lobed, lower leaves up to 50 x 50 mm; lobes ovate, subacute, middle lobe up to 25 x 25 mm, lateral lobes up to 11 x 11 mm, margins crenulate, rarely distinctly dentate, glabrous; petioles 4-20 mm long. Flowers solitary in axils of ovate-lanceolate bracts with a conspicuous basal tooth on both sides. Corolla white with purple stripes, 12-15 mm long, glabrous outside becoming slightly hairy towards base, 2-lipped, outer lobes lanceolate. Stamens 6.5-8.0 mm long; filaments pubescent; anthers hairy on back.
Twining, tuberous geophyte. Leaves ovate to sagittate, often 3-lobed below, toothed. Flowers in upper axils, bilabiate, laterally slit, white to mauve, with purple markings inside, 12-15 mm long, stamens 7-8 mm long, all anthers bearded.
