Characteristics

Corolla 3·5–4 mm. long, white, sometimes tinged with pink, split to the base into 2 lips, the upper 3–lobed but finally disintegrating, the lower divided into 2 free petals; all petals narrowly oblanceolate, glabrous outside, short pubescent inside in a zone near the base.

Stamens 1·5–1·8 mm. long; filaments linear, free, somewhat dilated at the base, pubescent; anthers elliptic–oblong, 0·6–0·8 mm. long, short pubescent at the tip and usually also on the back of the connective.
Leaves shortly petiolate, up to 25–50 x 1·5–4 mm., linear, acute at the apex, attenuate at the base, thickened and sparsely serrulate at the margin, glabrous; midvein very prominent beneath.
Racemes twining, lax, several–flowered; pedicels 1·5–5 mm. long, finely pubescent or papillose; bracts linear, up to 4 mm. long, often denticulate; bracteoles 0·4–1 mm. long.
Capsule subglobose, with 10 distinct nerves connected by some weak transversal nerves, with 2 valves 1·4–2·4 mm. long, inferior part of capsule 1·4–2·4 mm. long.
Stems almost filiform, branching, ribbed, entirely glabrous or sparsely papillose in the inflorescence region only.
Calyx–lobes narrowly triangular, ± erect, 0·5–1·2 mm. long, entire or with a pair of teeth at the base, glabrous.
Seeds broadly elliptic, flat, broadly winged, 1·4–1·8 X 1–1·2 mm.
Hypanthium cup–shaped, 10–nerved, glabrous or almost so.
Ovary semi–inferior; style c. 1·2 mm. long.
