Erect herb, 12–25 cm. tall, from a tuber; stem not branched, ribbed below, ± sulcate in the inflorescence region, sparsely pubescent above.. Leaves crowded towards base of stem, sessile or subsessile, 18–70 mm. long, 2–4 mm. wide, linear, acute at the apex, serrulate, glabrous; midvein prominent beneath.. Raceme dense, up to ± 3 cm. long, long-pedunculate; pedicels 2–4 mm. long, finely pubescent; bracts up to 14 mm. long; bracteoles 1–2.5 mm. long, filiform.. Hypanthium broadly obconical, 10-nerved, finely pubescent or glabrous.. Calyx-lobes narrowly triangular, 2.5–4.5 mm. long, with 1–3 pairs of teeth at the margin, glabrous.. Corolla 12–15 mm. long, purplish pink, saccate at the base above, split to the base into 2 lips, the upper 3-lobed, the lower divided into 2 free petals; all petals linear, glabrous or almost so outside, pubescent inside towards the base and at the apex.. Stamens 6–7 mm. long; filaments dilated and connate at the base, pubescent; anthers elliptic-oblong, 2–2.4 mm. long, lanate with curled hairs 1–1.5 mm. long on the back of the connective, and at the tip with a tuft of short hairs..
