Prostrate, short-lived herb with stems to 45 cm long, scabrous or glabrous. Leaves narrowly lanceolate-obovate to linear-terete, acute or obtuse, 7–27 mm long; stipules inconspicuous. Male plant: flowers in erect axillary and terminal racemes; pedicels up to 1 mm long; bracts leaf-like; calyx 1.5 mm long, entire to shortly lobed; stamens 8–10, squat; disc smooth. Female plant: flowers solitary, axillary; pedicels to 1 mm long; calyx less than 1 mm long, lobed to half-way; ovary ±cylindrical, c. 2 mm long, smooth to papillose, the apex oblique and deeply hollowed; stigma 3-lobed, divided into many papillae. Fruit barrel-shaped, 4–6 mm long, 2.5–4 mm wide, the base broad and hollow, constricted above, the apex oblique and concave containing old style, smooth to rugose with ±stellate papillae. Seed basally attached, U-shaped, c. 1 mm long, smooth or almost so, red-brown; aril very small.
