Bulb ovoid, 1 in.diam., with a short neck and brown membranous tunics; leaves 3-4,contemporary with the flowers, lorate, obtuse, erect, glabrouse,1/2-1 ft. long, 1/4-1/2 in broad; peduncles 3-12 in. long; flowers 2-10, umbellate;pedicels erect, 1-2 in.long; spathe-valves 2, lanceolate; perianth yellow or milk-white; tube 1/4-1/3 in. long; segments 1/2-3/4 in. long,with about 5 ribs; stamens half as long as the perianth-segments; ovary green, glabrous, oblong; style overtopping the anthers;capsule 1/2 in. long.

Peduncles 1-3, erect, very short up to 20 cm long, often elongating subsequent to flowering. Spathe-valves oblong-lanceolate. Inflorescence a 1-20-flowered umbel. Pedicels erect, 2-4 cm long. Perianth yellow; tube campanulate, 5-10 mm long, lobes 15-20 mm long, lanceolate, acute. Capsule oblong to oblanceolate.
Perennial geophyte, 75-200 mm high, hugely variable. Leaves green or absent at flowering, linear to strap-shaped, 1-38 mm wide. Flowers 1-17, ± erect; perianth narrowly or widely funnel-shaped, 20-30 mm long, yellow, tube shorter than to as long as segments; stamens exserted from tube; stigma 3-lobed. Flowering time all year, mostly after spring fires.

A herb. It does not have hairs. The bulb is 3 cm across. It is covered with thin leaf bases. There are only a few erect leaves. These are narrow and like straps. They are 15 cm long and 6 mm wide. The flowering stalk is about equal to the leaves. The flowers are yellow tubes 2 cm long. The fruit is dry.
