Characteristics

Bulb, subglobose, 6-10 cm in diameter, contracted into a neck above ground, covered with chestnut tunics. Leaves 8-10, glaucous, persistent, distichous, strap-shaped, about 45 cm long, 3-3.75 cm wide, obtuse, twisted at maturity. Peduncle 30 cm or more tall, glaucous, sometimes twisted. Spathe-valves 3-4, lanceolate, 3.5-5 cm long. Pedicels 1.5-2.5 cm long. Flowers 5-10 in an umbel, pendulous; perianth 6-7.5 cm long, pink, paler towards the base; tube curved at the base dilated to the throat about 1 cm wide, 4-5 cm long; lobes elliptic-oblong, about 1.5 cm long, 7.5-9 mm broad. Stamens inserted in the throat; filaments about 2.5 cm long with dilated bases. Style about equal to the perianth in length; stigma shortly three-lobed.
