Characteristics

Bulb oval, 4 cm in diam., produced into a short neck. Leaves 4-5, contemporary with, or, in certain circumstances, absent at the time of flowering, lorate-lanceolate, obtuse, 30-50 cm long, 1.5-2 cm broad. Peduncle 25-50 cm tall. Spathe-valves 2, ovate-lanceolate, 2-3 cm long. Pedicels approximately equal to the spathe-valves. Flowers 6-9 in an umbel, nodding or sub-pendulous; perianth 3.5-4 cm long, the tube red, the lobes yellow; tube curved, gradually dilated to the throat; lobes oblong, '4-5 times shorter than the tube' that is about 8-9 mm. Stamens biseriate, inserted in the throat of the tube, not exceeding the lobes. Style exserted, stigma trifid, apex papillose.
