Bulb ovoid, 1.7-2.5 cm in diam., produced into a short neck. Leaves 1-2, contemporary with the flowers, linear, about 1-3 mm broad. Peduncle slender, 8-20 cm long, hollow. Spathe-valves 2, linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, 2-4 cm long. Pedicels up to 3 cm. Flowers 1-3 on each peduncle; perianth 4-6 cm long, more or less horizontally spreading, white to pale pink with 6 conspicuous red, reddish-brown or green stripes extending down the perianth-tube and along the lobes; tube 2.5-3.5 cm long with a short slender base from which it is dilated gradually to the throat 1.5-2 cm wide; lobes ovate-oblong, 1.5-2.5 cm long. Stamens biseriate, somewhat exserted. Style exserted, trilobed.
Perennial geophyte, 80-300 mm high. Leaves occasionally dry at flowering, narrowly strap-shaped, 2-8 mm wide. Flowers 1-5, suberect; perianth funnel-shaped, 35-70 mm long, cream-coloured, segments backed with yellow, green or rarely reddish midribs; stamens short and incurved; style curved against lower segment; stigma 3-branched. Flowering time (Oct.-)Jan.-Mar., after rain.
