Characteristics

Bulb globose or subglobose, up to about 5 cm diam., covered with a brown membranous tunic and produced into a neck 3-5 cm long. Leaves 1-3 to each bulb, emerging slightly after the scape but maturing before fruits ripen, 15-20 cm long, 3-7 mm broad. Peduncle 15-20 cm long, 3-4 mm diameter, hollow; spathe-valves 2, linear-lanceolate up to about 6 cm long, becoming membranous. Pedicels unequal, 1.5-4.5 cm long in the same umbel. Umbel 2-4 flowered with the mature flowers nodding. Perianth pale yellow, 3.5-5 cm long, divided slightly more than 1/3 its length; tube slightly curved, expanding gradually from the base to the throat, 1-1.2 cm wide; lobes more or less oblong-lanceolate, about 7 mm broad across the base and the outer ones slightly longer than the inner. Stamens inserted in 2 rows; lower 3 opposite the outer perianth lobes, inserted 4-5 mm within the perianth tube, with filaments 4-5 mm long; the upper 3 inserted about at the throat of the perianth opposite the inner lobes; anthers narrowly oblong, nearly 8 mm long. Style slightly exserted from the corolla tube, 3-lobed.
