Characteristics

Bulb ovoid, about 2 cm in diam., contracted into a short neck, covered with membranous tunics. Leaves 2-4, linear, 20-30 cm long, 2-5 mm broad, present or absent at flowering. Peduncle rather long than the leaves. Spathe-valves linear, 2.5-3.75 cm long. Pedicels much shorter than the spathe-valves. Flowers 3-7 in an umbel, suberect; perianth 2.5-4.5 cm long, red or yellow; tube very slender, dilated gradually from the base nearly to the throat, there slightly contracted, 2-3 mm wide; lobes ovate, about 3 mm long. Stamens biseriate, inserted in the perianth-tube; anthers sessile. Style trifid. Perianth 3.5-4.5 cm long, yellow. Flowering time: Mid-October to March, with a peak in November.
