Corolla violet at apices of lobes and whitish at base, pale purple or bluish-mauve; tube 3.5–4.5(5.0) mm. long, widely funnel-shaped, glabrous outside, minutely hairy inside; lobes 21–23 x 3.5–4.5 mm., ovate at base, gradually attenuate into long narrowly triangular apices, more or less scabrous outside on back.
Calyx scabrous and with spreading or ascending bristles up to 1.5 mm. long outside and inside or sometimes almost sericeous inside. Lobes 4–7 x 1.5–2.5 mm. when flower newly expanded, increasing to 12.0 x 6.5 mm. in fruit, triangular-ovate to lanceolate-elliptic, acute.
An erect perennial herb 1–2 m. high; stems somewhat weak, usually unbranched, slightly ribbed, clothed with very short patent dense rigid hairs and some scattered spreading bristles c. 1 mm. long.
Stamens inserted about 1.5 mm. from the mouth; anthers 6–7 mm. long; terminal appendages 14–15 mm. long; filaments c. 2 mm. long with basal appendage shortly and densely hairy.
Inflorescence a large more or less lax terminal panicle with indumentum of short dense rigid hairs mixed with spreading bristles c. 1 mm. long.
Fruit of 1 (? more) well developed nutlet c. 5 x 4 x 4 mm., ovoid, keeled to the apex, rounded at back, verrucose.
Bracts many, oblong-elliptic to ovate, rounded to subcordate at base.
Style 26–28 mm. long.
