Characteristics

?Annual or biennial or perennial herb 15–40 cm. tall with slender simple but quite woody root; stems ± branched or unbranched, covered with ± dense long spreading white setae (2–)3–4 mm. long.. Leaves narrowly oblong-elliptic to lanceolate, 1.5–7.5 cm. long, 0.25–1.4 cm. wide, acute at the apex, gradually narrowed at base into an apparent petiole 0–5 mm. long, with scattered long hairs on upper surface and margins and main nerves beneath, elsewhere very shortly pubescent with minutely bulbous-based hairs.. Inflorescence of terminal and axillary cymes ± 2.5 cm. long; bracts leaf-like and bracteoles often exceeding and partly hiding the calyces; pedicels shorter than calyx.. Calyx 7–10 mm. long; lobes lanceolate to linear-oblong with scattered bristles and hairs outside, denser and longer inside.. Corolla greenish cream; tube 2.5–3 mm. long; lobes ovate, 7–10 mm. long, upwardly curved, narrowing ± abruptly into linear tips 3.5–5.5 mm. long, pilose outside.. Stamens 8–10 mm. long; anthers 3.5–5 mm. long with appendages 5–6 mm. long; filament short with expanded portion under 1/2 the width of the anther; basal filament-appendage inconspicuous, up to 0.5 mm. long.. Style 1.25 cm. long.. Nutlets not known.
