Characteristics

Aerial stem-parasitic shrubs with epicortical runners bearing secondary haustoria. Leaves opposite or ternate. Inflorescencess axillary or borne on the epicortical runners, consisting of 1-4 whorls of dichasia (triads) in racemose order on a common axis; triads pedunculate, with the central flower sessile and the lateral flowers pedicellate; bracts solitary under each flower. Corolla usually 6-merous, choripetalous, regular. Anthers basifixed, immobile. Style simple, with a knob-like stigma. Fruit ellipsoid or ovoid. Fig. 17.
