Characteristics

Stem ca. 1 m tall, glabrous, branched. Leaf blade 10--15 cm wide, base cordate; primary lobes separate for at least 60% of blade radius; central lobe broadly rhombic, 3-lobulate, distally few dentate, apex acute; ultimate lobules narrowly ovate or lanceolate; proximal leaves usually not withered. Compound raceme ca. 40 cm, ca. 25-flowered, densely appressed puberulent; bracts 3-parted. Pedicels 1.2--2.2 cm; bracteoles borne proximally or near middle of pedicel, lanceolate-linear or subulate, 2.2--2.8 mm. Sepals purple-blue, abaxially appressed puberulent; spur cylindric, ca. 1.7 cm, straight, base ca. 3 mm in diam.; other sepals 1.3--1.5 cm. Petals undivided, glabrous. Staminode limb broadly ovate, 2-lobed, sparsely white barbate. Filaments glabrous. Carpels 3; ovaries puberulent only near ventral suture. Fl. Aug--Sep.
