An erect herb 4 to 8 dm. tall, sometimes with the stems having few fine scattered hairs in the lower part, densely softly pubescent in the upper part and on the inflorescence branches, sometimes densely pubescent throughout.. Leaves variable in size and degree of segmentation of blades, upper segmented nearly to base.. Final inflorescence branches 4–11 cm. long.. Flowers about 6 cm. in diameter, with delicate odour.. Sepals white sometimes with a green spot; spur 3–4 cm. long, sometimes S-curved.. Filaments glabrous or nearly so.. Carpels and follicles 3, with short silky pubescence.. Fig. 5.
