Widespread on the island, extending from lowland coastal areas to mountain tops. At low elevations it commonly grows on rocks and plants are stunted with short pseudobulbs. Locally common in upland forests of mountains, growing on trees, rocks and clumps of elkhorn fern in humid sheltered locations. Also grows among dense moss on shrubs and trees in stunted forests on summits of Mt Gower and Mt Lidgbird where clouds, fogs and mists are frequent. Occasional plants grow as terrestrials in soil and litter.
