Characteristics

Upright, polycarpic plant to 7 m tall, with trunk to 35 cm in diameter; pith to 4 cm in diameter; stem with densely packed leaf-rosettes of 25–75 leaves, with no internode elongation, cloaked with marcescent foliage or at least covered with retained leaf-bases for 1–3 m below the leaf-rosettes.. Infrequent reproduction yields sparsely branched, spreading plants that rarely exceed four reproductive cycles.. Leaf lamina oblanceolate, to 78 cm long and 21 cm wide, hair cushion present on upper leaf-base, sometimes extending along upper midvein, lower surface glabrous or with a sparse to dense pubescence, villose along lower midvein.. Inflorescence broadly pyramidal to 120 cm tall, 80 cm in diameter; capitula presented horizontally.. Ray florets 6–17; to 20 mm long; disc florets 20–90.
