Upright, polycarpic plant to 8 m tall, with trunk to 50 cm in diameter; pith 2.5–5 cm in diameter; stem with densely packed leaf-rosettes of 30–50 leaves, with no internode elongation; cloaked with marcescent foliage or at least covered with retained leaf-bases for 1–3 m below the leaf-rosettes.. Branching sparse to dense; spreading.. Leaf lamina elliptic or cordate, to 97 cm long and 32 cm wide, with lower portion of leaf constricted, hair cushion present on upper leaf-base, sometimes extending along upper midvein, lower surface glabrous or with a dense indumentum, villose along lower midvein.. Inflorescence broadly paniculate to 120 cm tall, 80 cm in diameter; capitula pendulous or presented horizontally.. Ray florets 11–13, to 24 mm long, or absent; disc florets 40–130.
