Characteristics

Herbs, trailing to climbing; stem triquetrous and grooved, pilose and/or un-cinulate pubescent. Leaves trifoliolate, stipulate, and petiolate; stipules ovate acu-minate, striate, puberulent and somewhat to densely pilose, abundantly ciliate, 5.5-6.5 mm long, 2.5-5 mm wide; stipels linear to narrowly ovate attenuate, puberulent and ciliate, 3-4 mm long; petioles sulcate, finely ridged and grooved, long soft spreading pilose, 3.2-5 cm long; leaf rachis similar, slender, 0.5-1.2 cm long; petiolules stouter, more densely spreading pilose, 1.5-3 mm long; leaflets mostly ovate acute, moderately appressed pilose on both the surfaces, the ter-minal leaflet rhombic, acute at the apex and rounded to cuneate at base, 3.5-7 cm long, 2.4-4 cm wide, the lateral leaflets nearly elliptic, acute at the apex, rounded at the base, 3-5 cm long, 1.6-2.4 cm wide. Inflorescence chiefly terminal, racemose to racemose paniculate; rachis ridged and grooved, densely uncinulate puberulent; bracts ovate acuminate, finely striate, puberulent on abaxial surface, ciliate, 5.5-8.5 mm long, 3-4 mm wide; secondary bracts not seen; pedicels un-cinulate puberulent, 4-6 mm long. Flowers with the calyx puberulent throughout with some long pilosity on the ciliate teeth of both lobes, the central tooth of lower lobe 4-5.5 mm long, the lateral teeth 2.5-4 mm long, the upper bifid lobe 2.5-3.5 mm long; corolla with standard 6-7.5 mm long, 4-4.5 mm wide, the wings 5.5-7.5 mm long, 2-2.5 mm wide above, the keel petals 5.5-8 mm long, 2-2.5 mm wide above. Loments stipitate, to 11-articulate; articles uncinulate pubescent throughout, slightly asymmetrical, more deeply indented below, ca. 3.5 mm long, 2.5 mm wide; seed reniform, 2 mm long, 1.3 mm wide.

Leaves 3-foliolate; stipules ovate, 4-12 mm, acuminate or caudate, often persistent; petiole 3-9 cm, hairy as stems; terminal leaflet blade ovate or sometimes broadly elliptic, 5-13 × 2-7 cm, papery, both surfaces ap­pressed pilose, base rounded to truncate, apex acute. Racemes terminal or axillary, to 30 cm; rachis with dense appressed to spreading hooked hairs, 2-flowered at each node. Pedicel fili­form, 6-10 mm. Calyx 2.5-3 mm, 5-parted; lowest lobe longest. Corolla purplish red to violet becoming bluish or greenish white, 9-11 mm. Legume shortly stipitate, narrowly oblong, 2-4.5 cm × 3-4 mm, densely brownish hooked hairy, 5-10-jointed, lower suture deeply constricted, upper suture thickened, slightly sinuate; stipe ca. 2 mm; articles semicircular or rhom­bic, 4-5 mm.
