Species

Angiosperms > Asparagales > Iridaceae > Devia

Characteristics

Plants 500-700 mm high, forming dense clumps. Corm depressed-globose, 20-27 mm diam.; tunics of coarse fibres accumulating in a dense mass. Stem sheathed below by a thick collar of coarse fibres, simple or 1-to 3-branched. Leaves ± dry at flowering, linear, mostly 6, all ± basal, oval in cross section, main and second pair of veins heavily thickened, thus with two narrow longitudinal grooves on each surface, apex pungent, margins unthickened, edged by narrow grooves, cauline leaves few and reduced. Spike 18-to 26-flowered, secund in 2 ranks, branches with fewer flowers; bracts dry, 2.4-4.0 mm long. Flowers actinomorphic, salver-shaped with tepals ascending forming a narrow cup including filaments, dusty dull pink, unscented; perianth tube narrowly funnel-shaped, ± 9 mm long; tepals subequal, ovate-elliptic, ± 6 x 3.5 mm. Stamens rotated anticlockwise width of 1 tepal; filaments ± 9 mm long; anthers ± 4 mm long, yellow. Style ± 16 mm long, eccentric, dividing opposite middle to upper 1/3 of anthers, ± 0.5 mm long, notched apically. Capsules 5-6 mm long, warty above. Seeds globose, (0)1 or 2 per locule, smooth, surface cell outlines prominent.
