Characteristics

Leaves: petiole and rachis together 1.5–3(–5) cm long, pubescent; leaflets 3 or rarely with a fourth inserted laterally shortly below the terminal one on isolated leaves, the lower pair opposite or subopposite and (2)2.5–4.5(6.5) × (1.2)1.5–3(4) cm, all elliptic or broadly elliptic or somewhat ovate, cuneate to rounded at the base, rounded or emarginate to obtuse or somewhat acuminate at the apex, coriaceous, glabrous above, glabrous or finely pubescent (particularly on the midrib) beneath; petiolule 1.5–3(4) mm long, pubescent.

Fruits 1.7–2 × 1.5–1.7 cm, laterally compressed, oblique, with the style persisting as a short apiculum at the apex, brown or blackish-brown tomentellous.
Small to medium-sized tree up to 15(20) m high with a broad crown, or sometimes a low spreading shrub 4 m high or less; bark smooth, grey.
Flowers 7.5–9.5 mm across, in panicles up to 12 × 10 cm; inflorescence axes brown pubescent or tomentose; pedicels 2.5–4 mm.
Seeds 1 per fruit (or perhaps 2 but not yet recorded in this species), brown, shiny, 8–10 × 6.5–7.5 × 3.5 mm, ± lenticular.
Stamens 2, inserted opposite two adjacent sepals; filaments strongly geniculate about their middle; anthers 1.7–2 mm long.
