Characteristics

Plant to 0.8 m high, tufted, solitary; tufts to 0.2 m wide at base. Roots fleshy-fibrous. Stems to 15 cm long, touching. Leaves 20-70 cm long; sheath abaxially ridged, slightly occluded distally; lamina 0.6-1.8 cm wide, obtuse, decurving. Inflorescence exceeding foliage, irregular in outline, interrupted; cymules expanded, 5-15-flowered; pedicels to c. 7.5 mm long, ±angularly ribbed. Perianth segments narrowly elliptic to ovate, sky-to dark blue. Sepals 7.5-9.5 mm long, 5-9-nerved. Petals 7-8.5 mm long, 3-5-nerved. Filament swelling 1.3-2 mm long, orange-yellow; anthers 2.8-4.2 mm long, pale yellow. Ovules 6 per locule. Berry 6-8 mm long. Seed 2.5-3.2 mm long; testa smooth but minutely areolate, black, shiny.
