Characteristics

Plant to 0.7 m high, tufted, solitary; tufts to 1 m wide at base. Roots fibrous. Stems 30-75 cm long, touching or up to 30 cm apart. Leaves 10-40 cm long; sheath ±indistinguishable from lamina; lamina 0.5-1.1 cm wide, flat to complicate, short1y attenuate. Inflorescence exceeding foliage, irregular in outline, interrupted; cymules condensed, 4-12-flowered; pedicels 2-8 mm long, ±evenly rounded. Perianth segments oblong to elliptic, pale-to mid-blue. Sepals 6.5-8 mm long, 5-nerved. Petals 6.5-7.5 mm long, 3-5-nerved. Filament swelling 1-1.5 mm long, yellow; anthers 3-4 mm long, yellow. Ovules 4-8 per locule. Berry 5-7.5 mm long. Seed 3.5-4.5 mm long; testa minutely areolate and colliculate, black, shiny.
