Characteristics

Plant to 0.7 m high, tufted, solitary; tufts less than 2 cm wide at base. Roots fleshy-fibrous. Stems less than 4 cm long, adjacent. Leaves 20-110 cm long; sheath abaxially ribbed, ±completely occluded distally; lamina 0.4-1.2 cm wide, ±flat. Inflorescence exceeding foliage, ±conical in outline, interrupted; cymules moderately expanded, 2-15-flowered; pedicels to c. 14 mm long, ±evenly rounded. Perianth segments narrowly ovate to elliptic, pale-to sky-blue. Sepals 7-10 mm long, 5-7-nerved. Petals 6.5-9.5 mm long, 3-5-nerved. Filament swelling 0.9-2 mm long, yellow; anthers 3.2-4.3 mm long, tan to dark brown. Ovules 4-6 per locule. Berry less than 1 cm long. Seed 3.5-4.5 mm long; testa minutely colliculate and usually ±pustulate, black, shiny or ±dull.
