Plant to 1.2 m tall; tufts to 60 cm wide at base. Leaves glaucous to pruinose-purple with pale ±thin papery sheaths; lamina 0.5-2 cm wide; margins and midrib smooth. Inflorescence ±semi-globular in outline, interrupted; cymules 2-10-flowered. Flowers pale blue to green-blue. Seed minutely areolate, 3-4.2 mm long.
