Characteristics

Plant to 0.8 m high, tufted, solitary; tufts 0.5-1.5 cm wide at base. Roots tuberous; tubers 2.5-8 cm long. Stems less than 2 cm long, adjacent. Leaves 15-35 cm long; sheath ribbed abaxially, ±canaliculate distally; lamina c. 0.2-0.5 cm wide, flat, acute. Inflorescence exceeding foliage, irregular in outline, interrupted; cymules openly expanded, 5-15-flowered; pedicels 14-28 mm long, rounded. Perianth pale blue. Sepals narrowly elliptic, 7.5-8.5 mm long, 5-nerved. Petals elliptic, 7-8.2 mm long, 3-nerved. Filament swelling 1-2 mm long, orange; anthers 3-4.5 mm long, pale yellow. Ovules 4 per locule. Berry 2.5-4 mm long. Seed 2-2.8 mm long; testa minutely colliculate-granulate and irregularly pustulate, black, shiny.
