Perennial herb, up to 0.45 m high; slender, densely tufted, glaucous. Shoots: vegetative several, clustered, bearing leaves in apical tufts; flowering with a basal tuft of leaves. Leaves with blade linear-subulate or narrowly linear, 15-100 x 1 mm, tapering from base to narrow, acuminate apex, 3-or 5-veined. Flowers: (1-)3(-7) per peduncle, in 1-several inflorescences; lowermost bracts linear, diminishing in size upwards; calyx 20-30 x 3 mm; petals obovate or deltoid, up to 5 mm long, often recurved, antical margin crenulate or coarsely dentate-incised, creamy white or pale purplish pink; Nov.-Mar.
