An annual herb, erect, simple, nearly glabrous, minutely glandular, shining, 76-127 mm [as '3-5 in.'] high, leafy, weak; stem 25-76 mm [as '1-3 in.'] long; leaves crowded at the base, alternate, erect or suberect, petiolate, narrowly elliptical, ovate or obovate, obtuse at the apex, attenuate at the base, dentate, incise or subpinnatifid, membranous, subglaucous beneath, 0.33-1 in. long, 0.167-0.4 in. broad; teeth or lobes obtuse, directed upwards; petioles 0.25-1 in. long, somewhat dilated at each end; flowers pedunculate, axillary, about 0.375 in. long and 0.5 in. broad, few; peduncles 1-flowered, erect or suberect, often bent or curved near the apex, slender, furrowed, 1.5-3 in. long, ebracteate; calyx-segments pale green, cordate-ovate, subacuminate, minutely glandular, ciliolate, nearly equal, about 0.167 in. long by 0.1 in. broad; corolla in the dry state pale purple for the most part, dark purple about the base and on the two short broad depressed blunt pockets, with two orange-coloured patches above the pockets; stamens 4, all bearing anthers, glabrous; anthers cohering in pairs; filaments flattened, not lobed, even or one pair slightly dilated towards the base, 0.0417-0.05 in. long; pollen globose, corrugated-furrowed; furrows shallow, about 7-8 radiating from a pole; capsules not seen.

Annual, up to 230 mm tall. Leaves ovate to elliptic, lobed or divided. Flowers with cordate to reniform calyx lobes, corolla lilac to greyish magenta, limb 14-23 mm long, tube below upper lobes dark purple with 1-3 small yellow dots and 1 or 2 larger yellow patches at sac openings, sacs 1-2.5 mm, acute, filaments projecting out and downwards, densely covered with purple trichomes, posterior ones branched into fertile and nonfertile arms. Capsule ovoid, 3-6 mm long.
