Characteristics

An erect herb, glabrous nearly throughout, glaucescent, annual, strictly erect, 10-20 cm [as '4-8 in.'] high; stem simple, slender, smooth, leafy at the base; basal leaves rosulate, oval, obtuse or mucronulate at the apex, narrowed at the base, repand or pinnately toothed, 0.25-0.37 in. long, 0.083-0.167 in. broad; teeth pointed; petioles 0.5-0.75 in. long; upper leaves alternate, rather few; peduncles slender, axillary or narrowly bracteate at the base, 0.25-1.5 in. long, together arranged in a terminal raceme which occupies half or three-quarters of the length of the stem, suberect; calyx-segments lanceolate and ovate-lanceolate, acute or subacute, minutely glandular-puberulous especially on the margin, 0.083-0.125 in. long; corolla about 0.125 in. broad and long, purple, with two very small pits at the base; stamens 4, perfect; filaments filiform, subequal, minutely glandular; anthers glabrous, yellow; ovary glabrous; capsule ovoid, about 0.125 in. long.

Annual, up to 350 mm tall. Leaves obovate to elliptic, margins irregularly lobed to divided. Flowers with ovate to falciform ovate-acuminate to caudate calyx lobes, corolla greyish magenta to greyish violet, limb 7-13.5 mm long, tube below upper corolla lobes with yellow patch at each sac opening, sacs 1-1.5 mm long, acute, stamens projecting forwards, ± straight, pubescent in lower half with purple trichomes. Capsule falciform-ovoid, 4-5.3 mm long, scarcely exceeding calyx.
Annual to 35 cm. Leaves obovate to elliptic, incised to pinnatisect. Flowers axillary, 2-spurred, greyish magenta to violet with darker centre and 1 or 2 yellow patches below upper lobes, limb 7-14 mm long, spurs 1.0-1.5 mm long. Capsules ovate and falcate, 4.0-5.5 x 2.0-2.5 mm.
